The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH), founded in 2000, is one of the leading research centres in Greece and listed among the TOP-25 E.U. institutions with the highest participation in competitive research grants.

CERTH is a legal entity governed by private law with non-profit status, supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs.

Its research areas include Energy, Environment, Industry, Mechatronics, Information & Communication, Transportation & Sustainable Mobility, Health, Agro-biotechnology, Smart farming, Safety & Security, as well as several cross-disciplinary scientific areas.

In the AGROinLOG project, CERTH participates through the Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI). Key areas of expertise include RTD activities in renewable energy sources, solid and liquid biofuels production and utilization, energy saving and environmental protection. CPERI employs a scientific staff of about 200 people, while its inflows is around 10 million €/year. CPERI’s headquarters are in Thessaloniki; the branches located in Athens and Ptolemaida host the activities of the group related to the solid biofuels research activities.

CERTH acts as the main demonstration supporter for the implementation of the Integrated Biomass Logistics Centre (IBLC) of NUTRIA S.A. As a result, it will play a major role in the overall planning of the demonstration, while leading activities related to the assessment of combustion properites of olive tree pruning pellets and scoping the potential for bio-commodities production.

Role and main activities in AGROinLOG

CERTH will be heavily involved in the activities of WP4 – Demonstration of an IBLC inside the olive sector, supporting NUTRIA and the other project partners in all aspects of the Greek demonstration case. In particular, CERTH will have a supervisory role in the planning of the demonstration and will lead most of the activities related to the monitoring, operational testing and validation of bio-products.
